What was your goal when you originally signed up?

When I originally signed up, my goal was to get back in shape. I’ve always been active in some way, shape, or form. I started dancing when I was in 2nd grade. In 8th grade, I was on the track team and attempted to continue my track journey when I went to high school, but it didn’t work out. Once I graduated high school, I gave up dancing because I was going to an out-of-state university. I didn’t really live an active lifestyle throughout my college years except for attending a required gym class as a freshman. However, once I went to graduate school, I made the effort to take two fitness classes each semester. That’s when my love for working out and living an active lifestyle was reignited.

How did you originally hear about us?

When I moved to Savannah in 2013 to work at SCAD, I wanted to continue my active lifestyle I started back in graduate school. I researched a few gyms and at that point in time I was just starting a new job; I had a tight budget I wanted to stick to (thanks to Sallie Mae). I really couldn’t afford anything at the moment.

Having no idea what I was going to do, my coworker (at the time) mentioned how she knew someone that could train us. That is when she introduced me to Eddie, who worked in the SCAD Athletics Department. She explained to me that he was willing to train us at the SCAD gym on our lunch break. I was so ecstatic! I had never heard of CrossFit until I met Eddie. I didn’t even think I was capable of doing any of the standard CrossFit movements because I was a dancer; I didn’t consider myself strong at all. Throughout my journey working with Eddie at the SCAD gym, he had mentioned CrossFit SteadFast and how they provide such an awesome community and have the most amazing coaches. From that moment on, I knew I had to join!

What prompted you to seek us out?

Working out at the SCAD gym was great but it didn’t provide me all the necessary equipment that I needed. There were also other people using the same room as us when we worked out so it got pretty crowded. I knew I had outgrown the gym and had to make my way to an actual CrossFit gym, and CrossFit SteadFast was the place I had to be.

How do you feel about your future?

I feel great about my future because I am consistently growing.

What have you liked best about working with us?

I love the community and how everyone is super supportive—cheering everyone on during the workouts. I have gotten stronger and healthier since I’ve joined the gym and I couldn’t be happier.

What would you say to anyone else who might be interested in starting at SteadFast?

HoldFast to just doing it! Don’t feel intimidated by the workouts because everything is scalable. You are going to feel great once you’ve accomplished a movement on your to-do list or when you get a Personal Record (PR).
