What was your goal when you originally signed up?

I wanted to increase oxygen flow and heart rate, reduce daily stress, increase endurance and strength.

How did you originally hear about us?

2015 I was riding home from a TedX rehearsal around 6pm. The CFS doors were up and heavy metal was blasting through the speakers. Kettlebells, beards and barbells were flying and crashing everywhere. I thought if I ever go to a gym it needs to be like this!

What prompted you to seek us out?

About every 18 months I like to go on a quest, a solo trip that challenges me physically, mentally and spiritually.

On one such adventure in 2017, I had just biked 3500 feet up a glaciated volcano. Near the top, I had to hike up and over the ice cap. After about 1km of carrying my bike across my shoulders, I slid back down the ice several times before collapsing. I was in the clouds, sweated out and totally exhausted. Doubt arose, soon followed by fear as I was becoming somewhat hypothermic. I was alone, wet, cold, completely and totally spent, the unknown ahead. I sat down, slowed my breathing and had a serious word with myself, about myself.

There was no going back, only upwards, onwards. My physical body let me down that day. Only my mental state carried me through.

Two weeks later, back in the US, Jessie Kellam hooked me up with CrossFit SteadFast. I’m so glad she did.

How do you feel about your future?

I hope to show up and be ready. That’s the best I got. Maintain a daily practice of meditation and activity.

Along the way surf my kayak at Steamer Lane, walk across Britain, Ride my bike across Asia….that kind of stuff.

Physical fitness is key, but so too is one’s mental state. If the body is a machine, then the mind is the engineer.

What have you liked best about working with us?

From the first moment I walked through the door at CF SteadFast, I have been greeted with nothing but welcoming and positive energy.

Brian, Sabrina, and their crew put out the right amount of encouragement and training without being forceful or judgmental. They are engaged and involved at all times.

When you need a little push, they give it.

When you feel competent with your scaling, they let you be.

They know their shit and they got your six.

They have built a solid community devoid of ego and snobbery.

What would you say to anyone else who might be interested in starting at SteadFast?

We’re all in this together. We all want a better future. That change starts within the individual, and our health is our wealth.

So come on, let’s go!
