What was your goal when you originally signed up?

I played football at Boston College and never really worried about what I ate or needing to workout because we were on a strict routine. I’ve always been competitive and after I was done playing sports, I entered the “real world”, started to grow up, and life happened. Diabetes runs in my family and low and behold I was diagnosed with Type 2 about 8 years ago. Working out has essentially kept my diabetes under control. As I get older I’ve had to incorporate a healthier diet. My typical routine involved the elliptical and I would bro-sesh. I would watch what I ate but nothing fancy. Being a former athlete, working out and staying in shape was just a part of my life. But something was missing…but I didn’t really know I was missing until I was first introduced to CrossFit; it was like a lightbulb went off in my head. CrossFit took me back to the mentally tough competitive environment I craved. I found something that challenged me physically and mentally, something that drove me. I wanted to get better with the Olympic lifts, push-ups and all of it! I was like a kid in a candy shop (well, I can’t really eat candy, see diabetes reference, so perhaps a kid at a brand new playground) CrossFit has become my playground

How did you originally hear about us?

The first time I encountered CrossFit SteadFast was watching my girlfriend/future wife participate in the 12 days of Christmas at SteadFast. I didn’t even do the workout, but I marveled at everyone completing these ridiculously insane movements and all I knew was I wanted in.

What prompted you to seek us out?

Honestly, I sought out SteadFast because Melissa (Maikos) brought me. It wasn’t really optional not try it LOL! My first workout was a Saturday and the community embraced me like no other. When you play a competitive sport such as football, the team camaraderie, and team atmosphere is like no other, I felt that immediately at SteadFast, going back to when I was just watching the 12 Days of Christmas.

How do you feel about your future?

I’m excited about my future! I joined the “healthy habits” program, I’m all in and not just with the workouts but the lifestyle that is CrossFit. I cannot wait to see how it impacts my diabetes, even though, it already has made quite the difference, I’m hyped up about what’s next!

What have you liked best about working with us?

The community is the best part of SteadFast, especially because I can workout with Melissa. I’ve never had an accountability partner like Melissa I know even if Melissa wasn’t there on a particular day, I’d still be held accountable by the members who truly have become my crew!
